As one of the oldest schools in the world, likely dating back to the second half of the 7th century, Hereford Cathedral School has a long and venerable history. Yet HCS is firmly fixed on the future, as we endeavour to deliver a world-class education which ensures that all pupils are real-world ready.
The school is part of an ancient Cathedral foundation, and as a Choir School, which has the privilege of a Cathedral as its chapel, we are a Christian School in the Anglican tradition, although we welcome and value those of other denominations and faiths.
Pupils at Hereford Cathedral School achieve impressive examination success and go onto leading universities. Additionally, they also thrive in the world of work and in wider society because of the emphasis that we put on character education, framed within our Christian values, equipping them for a life of leadership and service.
The School is situated in Hereford’s beautiful Cathedral Close and includes an all-weather sports pitch, gym, studio theatre and much more.
The historic boarding house is located near Hereford city centre and includes extensive grounds for exploring and group activities.
Hereford Cathedral School offer sport, art, drama, music and academic scholarships to recognise and reward exceptional talent which can be nurtured through an education at HCS. Scholarship candidates can apply for scholarships at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Scholarships are awarded following an assessment and interview process, in addition to our usual entrance examinations.
