Berkhamsted School was founded in 1541 by John Incent, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral. Berkhamsted School is a diamond school in which pupils are taught coeducationally in the Pre-Prep School, Prep School and Sixth Form, but independently in their Senior years, between the ages of 11 and 16. The school has four main sites: the Pre-Prep School, the Prep School, the Castle Street Campus and Kings Road Campus.
The diamond structure of Berkhamsted School enables students to flourish academically in a single-sex classroom environment while at the same time allowing them to experience numerous co-educational activities, events and trips. At Berkhamsted your child will be encouraged to become actively involved in our wide-ranging extra-curricular programme as we believe it is the skills and abilities they develop outside the classroom that enhance the academic qualifications they achieve.
Students have full access to a multitude of fully-equipped facilities including libraries, science labs, drama studios and 3G all-weather pitches.
The School has two boarding houses: St John’s for girls and Incents for boys – ideally located near the school campus and town centre.
Berkhamsted School offer scholarships based on the contribution they feel the student could make to school life, whether academic, dramatic, musical, sporting or creative or as potential leaders. The scholarship value is usually 10% of total tuition fees, although higher awards may be given. Exhibitions may also be awarded for music and drama. All awards may be varied at the absolute discretion of the Principal.
